Mechanical Engineering Department
The department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the academic year 1996-1997. Last two decades efforts have been taken for the development of laboratories as per the curriculum and A.I.C.T.E. norms. From the academic year 2014-15, the institute got Autonomy.
In order to keep the students updated with the latest technology and industrial practices, expert lectures and visits to nearby industries are arranged the number of students qualifying GATE Examinations is also increasing every year.
The Department has 11 well-equipped laboratories for conducting practical sessions.
Department has Seven regular teaching faculties amongst them three faculties are having Ph.D., two visiting faculties are pursuing Ph.D., and three technical lab assistants for guiding the students for performing practical’s. Department is taking keen efforts to cultivate the sense of researchers and entrepreneurs, responsibility among the students for developing them as eminent engineers and professionals. Flaming enthusiasm, backed by horse- sense and persistence, is the quality that most frequently makes for success. Being one of the oldest departments, we are proud to offer a mechanical engineering knowledge base to our engineering students.
The National Board of Accreditation has accredited the department for three years. Today we have all practical labs with modern equipment’s and advanced technology, students are provided with up to date higher-end softwares like ANSYS 18.1., CATIA V5, CREO PARAMETRIC 2.0, HYPERWORKS 11.0, AUTOMATION STUDIO,etc. More than 200 students are seeking professional education in the department under the supervision and guidance of all the staff. We are proud to have highly qualified Faculties which can Sterlite students’ development from all the possible ways.
Our students have attended and demonstrated excellent skills in various paper Presentations, seminars and workshops. To enhance the personality of our students, we conduct various personality development programs, Group Discussions for Competitive Exams under MESA (Mechanical Engineering Students Association). We also hold the honor of conducting Techno-Arena (A national level Technical Event) every year.

Mechanical Engineering Students’ Association (MESA)
The Mechanical Engineering Students’ Association (MESA) is completely a student-based activity. The intention of formation of MESA is to develop the overall personality and to enhance the self-confidence among the students, so that they can sustain in today’s competitive world. MESA arranges different programs throughout the year. At the beginning of the year, MESA arranged “Fresher’s’ Welcome Program” for new comer students so that they can interact with their senior counterparts. Variety of programs such as Aptitude Test, Quiz Competition, Group Discussion, Poster Presentation etc. were taken. The industrial visits were also arranged.
The MESA will continue to enhance the quality of students which the changing world demands. This platform will lay a foundation for the successful engineers and good human beings. The planned activities for this year include software training programs, industrial visits, expert lectures, aptitude training, model making on CAD software and many more.
